Fictions of Every Kind: Sealed

Monday 12th February, Wharf Chambers 19.30, £3 entry

Invited speakers: Naomi Booth & Tom Weir

Fictions of Every Kind is Leeds' very own DIY writers' social night. At our February event, which has the theme SEALED, we are proud to present two terrific guest speakers, NAOMI BOOTH + TOM WEIR. NAOMI BOOTH is an award-winning writer and academic who lives and works in Yorkshire. Her first work of fiction, The Lost Art of Sinking, was selected for New Writing North’s Read Regional campaign and won the Saboteur Award for Best Novella 2016. Her debut novel, Sealed (Dead Ink Books, 2017) is a horrifying tale of body mutation and environmental contamination. Naomi lectures in Creative Writing and Literature at York St John University. TOM WEIR's poetry has been Highly Commended in both The Forward Prize and The National Poetry Competition and his poems have appeared in various journals and anthologies, including Lung Jazz: Young British poets for Oxfam. He was one of the inaugural winners of the Templar IOTA Shots competition with his pamphlet The Outsider and his first full collection All That Falling was brought out by Templar in 2015. He is currently working on his second collection, due in 2018, for which he has received a grant from the Arts Council. Entry is the totally 1998 price of £3. Music will be provided by our wonderful House Band. As ever, there will be a writers' open mic at which short stories, flash fiction, true stories, and excerpts of larger work are welcome. There is a 5 minute limit for contributions, and we encourage you to practise reading your work out at home first, to be sure you don't run out of time. When you hear the bell ring, it's time to stop! PLEASE NOTE our open mic is for words and stories ONLY, not for music or songs. Much as we love music and songs, they are not allowed at our open mic, please take your musical contributions elsewhere, thank you for your understanding. * Please note. Wharf Chambers is a members' club, and you must be a member to attend an event here. Joining costs £1 and takes a minimum of 48 hours to take effect. To join, see www.wharfchambers.org/join
