Fictions: Last Exit To Grimsby (Sept 2013)

Pull on your Doc Martens and light up your ‘Hemp’ incense: Fictions is celebrating the trials and triumphs of adolescence. Whether you were a moony Smiths-loving teen with gladioli in your back trouser pocket, or a long-haired mosher pogoing around your room to RATM, Fictions would love to invite you to read an excerpt from your teenage diary (real or fictionalised) at their September event, Last Exit To Grimsby.

Our invited speakers at this event will be:

SAJU AHMED A graduate of Leeds Young Authors, Saju is a spoken word poet, rapper, performer, & mentor who writes - among other things - on the subject of growing up as a Bangladeshi male in Leeds.

CHANJE KUNDA Based in Manchester, Chanje is a poet, playwright and performance artist who has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, Black Magic Woman Festival Amsterdam, & the Royal Exchange Theatre Manchester, among other places. She was formerly artist in residence at Central Manchester Hospitals and Manchester Museum, and the Whitworth Art Gallery. She is currently promoting her debut collection ‘Amsterdam’, which is out now on Crocus Books.

As ever, there’ll be word games, socialising, lovely organic Sammy Smith’s beer, and our open mic. Flash fiction, short stories, true stories, and excerpts from larger works are all welcome at our open mic but please do keep your contributions at 7 minutes or under. Sign up when you arrive.

Please note: Wharf Chambers is a members club & you must be a member in order to attend and event here. Joining costs £1 and takes 48 hours to take effect. For more info, see www.wharfchambers.org
