Fictions of Every Kind: Whodunnit! 22nd Sept, 2014
Monday 22nd September, Wharf Chambers, Leeds, £3
In a stately home, miles from anywhere, the lights go out. A sudden drop to darkness - the blackness. Footsteps - a noise - a sharp scream. Then suddenly, the lights flare again. A body lays on the carpet. Tangled, like a marionette with its strings cut. His body still warm. The question is: WHODUNNIT? Invited performers: AJ TAFT. Alison Taft is the author of a series of novels featuring Lily Appleyard, a dreadlocked ex-social policy student who seeks to reunite broken families, starting with her own. The first in the series, Our Father, Who Art Out There...Somewhere was published in 2011 followed by Shallow Be Thy Grave in 2013. The third in the series, My Time Has Come will be published in 2015 Alison also works as an editor for the Cornerstones Literary Consultancy. + Murder Ballads from LOWLANDS - You may know some of these folk from their role in The Ocean Loiners, a group of sea-shanty singing enthusiasts from the far shores of Leeds. At Whodunnit? they will be entertaining us with a series of murder ballads. As ever, there'll be a writers' open mic at this event. We've had some amazing contributions over the past few months, so keep it up! True stories, flash fiction, short fiction, and excerpts of larger work are all welcome. You MUST keep your contributions at 5 minutes or under, or you'll be stopped! A lot of our regulars find it helpful to practise reading their stories at home, and timing themselves. We look forward to hearing what you come up with!
