Fictions of Every Kind: Hearts, Mon 9th Feb 2015
Monday 9th February, 2015, Wharf Chambers*, 23-25 Wharf Street, Leeds (£3 in, 7:30 start)
One of our early words of encouragement cards read, "If you write - you're a writer." We believe this just as much now as we did then - that it's the act of writing, not our relative 'success', that defines writers. In honour of St Valentine, welcome to our February event: Hearts, hosted by Jenna, Claire and Sarah. We have two great invited speakers at this event, and as usual, there'll be a writers' open mic. Anybody is welcome to come along, even if they only want to sit & listen. Our invited speakers at this event will be:
NASSER HUSSAIN A poet whose work has been variously described as "Hip hop without the beats & rhymes," "Slam chutzpah, smarts and experimental brio with a healthy dash of disbelieving rage" will be with us to read from his recently published collection, BOLDFACE, published now on Burning Eye Press.
SUZANNAH EVANS A poet from Sheffield whose work has appeared in Magma, The Rialto, and The North magazine. Her pamphlet Confusion Species was a winner in the 2011 Poetry Business Book competition, and she has been poet in residence at Bank Street Arts. + WRITERS' OPEN MIC at which short stories, true stories, flash fiction, poetry, and excerpts of larger work are all welcome. PLease keep your contributions at 5 minutes or under, to give everybody the chance to read.
+ Music from RED TREES. * Please note: Wharf Chambers is a members' club and you must be a member in order to attend an event here. Joining costs £1 and takes a minimum of 48 hours to take effect. To join, see: www.wharfchambers.info
