Fictions of Every Kind: Leap!

Monday 29th February, Wharf Chambers, Leeds 19.30, £3 entry

We are really excited to have two excellent invited speakers at our February event, Helen Mort and Ian Harker. Helen Mort lives in Sheffield and is a Douglas Caster Cultural Fellow at The University of Leeds. Her first collection 'Division Street' was published by Chatto & Windus in 2013 and won the Fenton Aldeburgh prize. She also works in collaboration with the guitarist Samuel Moore on a poetry and flamenco show: (www.poetaflamenco.com). Ian Harker's work has appeared in The North, Agenda, Other Poetry, and Stand. In 2014 he was shortlisted for the Bridport, Troubadour and Guernsey International prizes, and in 2015 he was Highly Commended in the Bridport. A Winner of Templar's Book & Pamphlet competition, his Debut The End of the Sky was published in November. As ever, there will be music (act to be announced) and an writers' open mic, at which short stories, flash fiction, true stories, and excerpts of larger work are all welcome. You MUST keep your contributions at 5 minutes or under. If you go over, you will be stopped! Please don't make us ring our bell at you. We love to hear from new people & from self-identified women particularly - if you haven't read at our open mic before, please get in touch and we will hold a slot open for you. Any questions just ask :-) A convivial atmosphere, cheap bar, and weird presents all come as standard. Entry is £3, as ever (no, we don't know how we do it, either.) Please note: Wharf Chambers is a members' club, and you must be a member to attend an event here. Joining costs £1 and takes a minimum of 48 hours to take effect. To join, see www.wharfchambers.org
