Fictions of Every Kind: True Stories, Monday November 28th, Wharf Chambers

Invited speakers JO BRANDON and BARNEY BARDSLEY

Monday 28th November 2016, Wharf Chambers (23-25 Wharf Street), 7.30pm, £3 entry. Welcome to Fictions of Every Kind: True Stories, where we invite you to tell us tales of things that have actually happened. BARNEY BARDSLEY is a writer and dance-movement practitioner. She writes articles for the Guardian, Femail and Psychologies Magazine, and books about grief, recovery, the garden and travel. She trained in dance performance and teaching at the Laban Centre, London in 1987 and Dance Movement Therapy at Roehampton Institute, London in 1996. Her major influences are T’ai Chi and the Alexander Technique. She worked with actors in London and Hungary before moving to Leeds, in 1997, where she teaches independent classes across the community, and writes. Since 2009, the West Yorkshire Playhouse has been her main theatre home, running sessions in creative writing, dance and movement. Her latest book, ‘Old Dog’, was published in 2013 by Simon and Schuster. JO BRANDON’s pamphlet, Phobia, was published in 2012 and her collection The Learned Goose in 2015, both by Valley Press. Jo is former General Editor of Cadaverine magazine and is currently a freelancer based in Saltaire, West Yorkshire. Jo can be found online at www.jobrandon.com This event will also feature the debut of the Fictions of Every Kind House Band, featuring members of The Roman Empire and the Seven Inches. As ever, there'll be a writers' open mic at which true stories, flash fiction, short stories, and excerpts of larger work will be welcome. Please keep your contributions at 5 minutes or under - don't make us ring our bell at you! There will be a small number of pre-bookable open mic slots at this event - please send us a PM if you would like to book one of these. There will also be open mic slots available on the door for those who want to sign up on the night. Entry is still only £3. No, we can't believe it either. * Please note: Wharf Chambers is a members club and you must be a member to attend an event here. Joining costs £1 and takes a minimum of 48 hours to take effect. To join, please visit www.wharfchambers.org
