Fictions of Every Kind: Escape

Tuesday 4th July, Wharf Chambers, 23-25 Wharf Street, Leeds

19.30-22.30, £3 entry

At our July event, we're super proud to be hosting Clare Fisher, whose book All the Good Things has recently been published, and Rob Miles, winner of the Resurgence prize. Clare Fisher was born in Tooting, south London in 1987. After accidentally getting obsessed with writing fiction when she should have been studying for a BA in History at the University of Oxford, Clare completed an MA in Creative and Life Writing at Goldsmiths College, University of London. An avid observer of the diverse area of south London in which she grew up, Clare's writing is inspired by her long-standing interest in social exclusion and the particular ways in which it affects vulnerable women and girls. All The Good Things is her first novel. She now lives, writes and works as a bookseller in Leeds. Rob Miles is from Devon and lives in Yorkshire. His poetry appears widely in magazines such as Ambit, Orbis, The Interpreter's House and multiple anthologies from The Emma, Candlestick and Valley presses, including Remembering Oluwale. He’s won the Philip Larkin and Resurgence prizes and been commended or shortlisted for the Bridport, Wenlock, York, O’Donoghue and National Poetry competitions among others. As ever, there'll be the Fictions of Every Kind House Band, a writers' open mic, and presents from the pound shop for open mic participants. Flash Fiction, true stories, short stories, and excerpts of larger works are all welcome. Please note we do enforce a 5 minute limit on the open mic. We suggest practising reading your work at home first - don't make us ring our bell at you! Entry, as ever, is the totally 1998 price of £3.
