Monday November 27th, Wharf Chambers, Leeds, 19.30. £3 entry
Invited Speakers: Alicia Fernandez, Nick Allen
Alicia Fernandez was born and raised in Spain and is now based in Leeds, where she works as a translator. Her poems have been featured online by Algebra of Owls and have appeared in the anthology Freefall by Wellhouse Publications. She was shortlisted in the Poetry Kit's Spring Competition 2017. Her debut pamphlet If Moments Were Places has been published by Half Moon Books from Otley.
Nick Allen has been published in Pennine Platform and the Watermarks Anthology, where the poem Rain was “highly commended”. He will shortly be in the Poetry Salzburg Review, and the Verse Matters anthology. His first pamphlet, the necessary line is published by Half Moon Books from Otley. He is one of four poets that organise Rhubarb at the Triangle, a spoken word evening in Shipley, West Yorkshire that has recently published their first anthology of guest readers (“Un/Forced”) and is one of the sub-editors of the Algebra of Owls on-line poetry publishers. He derives most of his sustenance from double espressos and malt whisky.
As ever, there will be a writers' open mic, at which true stories, flash fiction, short fiction, and excerpts of larger works are all welcome. Please keep your contributions at 5 minutes or under - don't make us ring our bell at you! - and keep your contributions within the ethic of being supportive to other writers. Gifts will be available for all open mic participants.
Music will be provided by our wonderful House Band, and entry, as ever, is a very affordable £3.
Please note: Wharf Chambers is a members' club and you must be a member to attend an event here. Joining costs £1 and takes a minimum of 48 hours to take effect. See www.wharfchambers.org/join for more information.
