Fictions is VIRTUAL! Wednesday, April 8th, hosted by HEART, online at ZOOM
Wednesday April 8th, online at ZOOM, hosted by Heart Headingley Theme: Renewal, invited speaker: Sarah Brooks
Wednesday April 8th, 7.00pm, on Zoom! Fictions of Every Kind goes ahead! Despite the current lockdown HEART is still 'virtually' hosting Fictions of Every Kind. All of us at Fictions of Every Kind would like to thank Heart for their support in hosting this event virtually. Over the coming days we will post the link you need to access the Zoom meeting here, on our website. Please join us! The format will be as usual. There will be a limited number of open mic slots for writers, at which we encourage prose readings. If you would like to book one of these, please email northernshortstoryfestival@gmail.com. We are encouraging prose contributions at our open mic. Please keep your contributions at 5 minutes or under, otherwise you will be stopped. Our invited speaker is Sarah Brooks. Sarah Brooks lives in Headingley and works in East Asian Studies at the University of Leeds. She attended the Clarion West Writers' Workshop in 2012, and has had stories published in magazines including Interzone, Strange Horizons, and Strix. She won the 2017 Bare Fiction Short Story Prize, the Walter Swan Short Story Prize 2017-18, and the Lucy Cavendish Fiction Prize 2019. She's grateful for the exciting and supportive literary scene in Leeds, and is a member of the Leeds Writers' Circle and the Northern Short Story Festival Academy. She is co-editor of Samovar, a bilingual online magazine of translated speculative fiction, and is currently working on a novel about an alternate history of the Trans-Siberian Express. You can find her on Twitter @Sarah_L_Brooks. Unfortunately the format of this re-jigged event means we will no longer be able to host our Fabulous House Band. However one of the pluses of hosting this event online means you can all very much BYOB. We'll also soon post a link allowing attendees to make an 'entry donation', which will help us pay our invited speaker. We'd also like to say a huge thank you to the team at Wharf Chambers who were our venue for many years.
